The inspiration behind this work came to me in a vision I received depicting Gabriel's struggle with the forces of darkness and the breakthrough that followed when Michael the Archangel came to his aid. The rough draft of this work included both Gabriel and Michael and the focus was on the struggle.
As I continued fine tuning the line drawing, I was lead by the Lord to shift the focus solely to the breakthrough and eventually eliminating entirely the figure of Gabriel. I was somewhat reluctant to delete Gabriel from the picture. I had worked long and hard on the figure, and after all - he was in the vision I saw. The more I worked on Gabriel and the forces of darkness, the further I sensed the Lord's presence. I needed a breakthrough, and it only came when I yielded to His will.
Although we certainly all have our struggles, I believe the Lord wants us to focus beyond them - to set our eyes on the victories and the breakthroughs that lay ahead.
