The Baptism

When I started this picture I had no idea that it was to be the baptism of Jesus. I received a vision of a man, standing waist deep in water. I knew it was a vision from the Lord so I started work on it. When I began working on the man's beard, about three quarters of the way through, that was when the Lord revealed to me that it was indeed, a picture of His baptism.

This is one of my earlier works, and I don't believe that I would have attempted to depict Christ at that time. Even today, it is not an undertaking that I seek after. I'm convinced that it is for this reason, that the Lord hid the identity of the subject from me until I was almost done with the picture.

While working on this picture, I let the Lord guide my hand. In many instances I struggled with Him, for He had me doing things backwards and not in an orderly fashion. In other words not my way, but His. The creation process of this drawing, was for me, a lesson in obedience and faith. I have no doubt that this picture would be less powerful had I not followed His lead.
