As a prompting for this work, I was continuously drawn to the first chapter of John in scripture. In verse 4 and 5 it says: "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." These two verses in particular are the driving force behind this picture. While captured by the mystery of "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us," by the depth of Love that surrounds such an awesome sacrifice, I was struck with an overwhelming sense of Longing and loneliness, as a son might feel when separated from his home, and his father. The work here depicts Jesus at the beginning of His journey, the journey that will later cause Him to cry out "Sabachthani" in His pain of abandonment on the cross.

Unlike most of my work, this piece was done quite quickly. There was a remarkable flow to the work and it was done in less then a week. It is my prayer that this image will cause those who look upon it, to reflect on some of the human emotions that our Lord may have felt as He became flesh, in order to dwell among us—to die for us.
