Comfort My people! That is the first statement of Isaiah 40. When I started work on this piece, I had something very different in mind. My intention was to depict a dream I had a few nights previously, where I saw a figure surrounded by darkness, balanced on a blindingly bright beam of light that reached up into the heavens. Although secure on the beam, the figure was nevertheless in a precarious situation, working hard to maintain balance.
The Lord supernaturally guided my hand while working on this piece. I gave into His will, and we went from my "balancing act" to soaring through the heavens, resulting in the picture here before you. I believe he just wanted to take me out of my striving and weariness; to bring comfort. That's what He wants for all of us, and He will do it, if we let Him. It's His promise to His people.
