I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer. Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes. Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me. --PSALMS 17: 6-9

A friend of mine once suggested to me that the title of this work could be a great picture. I receive many such suggestions, but I can do nothing with them unless they take root in me. This suggestion did take root, and grew to where it was all consuming.

The subject in this picture is at prayer, covered by a Talit (a Jewish prayer shawl), in the shadow of the Lord (His wing). His shadow in this instance speaks to me of protection. If His shadow is over you, you are in His presence and thus you are protected. In such a place you will find peace and rest. This is what the Lord put on my heart while doing this picture: Rest, and receive My Love.
